Nana
and Papa came to visit mid August!! It
was a lovely week! They got to spend a
lot of time with the kids, which was really fun for me. I was able to run
errands, go to the gym and get some alone time.
It was a fun break! We had a
whole line up for them while visiting.
We tried to hit all the things that we know to do in Helena; we did the Gates
of the Mountains River Boat tour, the kids’ favorite carousel, the trolley tour
(which taught us all a lot of history of Helena), a lake beach BBQ, hiked Mount
Helena which offers an amazing view of the valley and even got in a fish trip
to Little Prickly Pear creek! Sorry Eva
for the humongous rock bites you got on the fish trip. Hopefully it will be fish bites next time.
It was also my birthday week, so Brian and I were able to take advantage and catch dinner and a movie!! We tried a fantastic Thai place (I know…hard to believe little Helena has a Thai restaurant) which we have been putting off because going out to eat with toddlers is no funJ Their visit culminated with a nice road trip to a town called Phillipsburg (the locals call it P-berg). In P-berg we enjoyed a walk in the historic mining district and took in a concert at the town’s natural amphitheater. On the way home from P-berg we stopped in to Butte, MT. Everyone got a nice glimpse of the “Richest Hill on Earth”. Butte is such a weird town, but always something to see. Thank you so much for making the trip to MT!
Gavin’s
birthday party was supposed to be a “movie under the stars” but it was not quite a
movie under the stars - unfortunately it was pouring outside, so we moved the
movie inside. Not quite the same, but I
think the kiddos still had a good time.
We set up a bunch of snacks for the kids and they were able to litter
the floor with popcorn:) Gavin was spoiled rotten by his friends and
grandparents.
I
can’t believe my little guy is 3 already; he is turning into such a fun little
boy. He loves playing outside with
friends, reading, driving his cars, drinking juice, watching movies, going to church, playing
ball,
riding
his strider bike, working outside with daddy. He is going to start pre-school
in January. I love this little guy more and more everyday-hard to believe that’s
even possibleJ
Grandpa took a quick motorcycle trip up here Labor Day weekend. He bought the kiddos a wonderful swing set, so
he and Brian spent most of the weekend putting it together. Gavin couldn't wait for grandpa to get here so they could go on a motorcycle ride, Gavin got on his helmet and sunglasses and Grandpa and Gavin cruised around the neighborhood for a while - Gavin was the happiest kid alive:) Even though the guys worked on the swingset for the majority of the weekend we were still able to do a few things; we
went out for pizza and went to a ball game, and my dad and I went on the river and
had a coffee date – it was so nice to spend some one on one time with him!! The swing set turned out great, the kids love
it. About an hour after getting the swing
set together Gavin decided to surf down the slide which ended with him getting an
enormous gash on his forehead. It was so
nice to have dad here even if it was a quick visit – it was hard to see him
go. Gavin was heartbroken watching him
drive away.
We took a quick trip up to Glacier National Park this last weekend. We left when Brian got home from work Friday
night and headed to West Glacier, which should be a 31/2 hour trip-it took us a
bit longer of course. To top it off we were told to go to the furthest campground
that exists which meant we were seriously just a few miles from the Canadian border. So we set up camp in the dark, and hoped when
morning came we wouldn't be disappointed with our decision to choose
this campground. We were pleasantly surprised
when morning came – we walked towards Bowman lake and were blown away – it was
absolutely breathtaking!! We spent the
day hiking around, throwing rocks, Bri and Gav did a little fishing, eating,
enjoying the fire and just relaxing in God’s beauty. We did a lot of driving but it was beautiful
and it’s always fun to see and explore new places. I did have one disappointment – I did not see
a Bear or a Moose- I guess that’s two!!
We
are looking forward to a trip home the last week of September!! Oh and it's supposed to snow this week - what the crap...
